Ich bin Charles Warcup, in England geboren und seit 1980 – mit Unterbrechungen – wohnhaft in Deutschland. Das hat mir viel Gelegenheit gegeben, zwei verwandte, aber doch verschiedene Kulturen miteinander zu vergleichen und Deutsch neben meiner Muttersprache Englisch “unter die Lupe zu nehmen”. Aus dieser Auseinandersetzung mit den Sprachen entstand meine Sammlung von grafischen Wortspielen, die ich “Spielwörter” nenne. Mein Dasein als Grenzgänger zwischen den Kulturen sowie meine Tätigkeit als Übersetzer für Deutsch ins Englische führte auch zu vielen Überlegungen zu Sprachen und Kommunikation im Allgemeinen, zu konkreten Aspekten der Sprachen Deutsch und Englisch, usw.
Seit einiger Zeit drängen diese Gedanken, Impressionen, Gefühle und Beobachtungen nach außen. Das führte, nach langem Reifeprozess, zum “Lexcentric Blog”. Ich hoffe, dass das Ergebnis für dich eine gute Mischung aus Impulsen, Unterhaltung und Information darstellt!
I’m Charles Warcup. I was born in Guildford, England, but have lived in Germany since 1980, apart from a few interruptions. That and my job as a translator for German into English has given me plenty of opportunity to compare two related, but different cultures, and to explore the relationships between German and my mother tongue, English. This, in turn, has led to my collection of graphic plays on words that I call “Spielwörter” (something like “play words”). Also, looking at each culture from the point of view of the other one has produced a lot of musing about language and communication in general as well as about specific aspects of German and English.
All these thoughts, impressions, feelings and observations have been trying to get out of my head into the wider world for quite som time now. The “Lexcentric Blog” is what happened. I hope you’ll experience it as a good mixture of ideas, entertainment and information!
